This marks only the second time that Street Fighter 6 will be featured in the Red Bull Kumite series, making it the ninth edition of the renowned tournament and the most expansive one to date.
Last year witnessed the revival of Red Bull Kumite, coinciding with the launch of Street Fighter 6. Over the past year, the game has established itself as a standout in the fighting game genre, earning recognition as one of the premier titles in the category.
As the game’s meta evolves one year into its release, anticipation builds for the upcoming Red Bull Kumite, offering a platform to observe how players have adapted and how the game has progressed.
The recently announced details for Red Bull Kumite 2024 reveal that the tournament series will unfold in early 2024, featuring a cage match in Brooklyn, New York. This location change contrasts with the 2023 Red Bull Kumite venue. Notably, the tournament will exclusively focus on Street Fighter 6, with 16 players participating in the event.
The tournament format is distinctive, employing best-of-nine matches and a single-elimination bracket. Unlike conventional tournaments, there is no secondary bracket for players to stage a comeback; once eliminated, participants are out of the competition.
Player selection for the tournament will be based on past performance, with invitations extended to some of the most accomplished Street Fighter 6 players. However, the final players will emerge from an open event, the Last Chance Qualifier, where 256 participants will vie for a spot on the roster. Among the invited players is last year’s champion, Big Bird, adding an extra layer of excitement to the competition.
The Red Bull Kumite 2024 event is scheduled to take place on March 16-17th. For those unable to attend in person, the tournament will be broadcast online by Red Bull, offering fans the opportunity to witness the competitive landscape of Street Fighter 6.
