Harald Hasselbach, a former defensive lineman for the Denver Broncos and one of a select few athletes to achieve victory in both a Super Bowl and the CFL’s Grey Cup, passed away at the age of 56 due to cancer, as confirmed by his family on Thursday.

The family revealed that Hasselbach had been battling metastatic mucinous adenocarcinoma. Despite the diagnosis, he continued to display remarkable strength and resilience in the face of the illness. The family stated that he peacefully succumbed to cancer at home, surrounded by loved ones, and emphasized the tremendous outpouring of support he received from teammates, coaches, and family members who came from various parts of the world.

A notable figure in Broncos history, Hasselbach contributed significantly during his seven seasons with the team from 1994 to 2000. His reliability was evident as he never missed a game, whether in the regular season or postseason, playing a total of 121 games. Recognized for his class and accessibility by reporters, he carried himself with professionalism and grace, particularly during challenging times.

Hasselbach’s impact extended beyond the NFL. Before joining the Broncos, the 6-foot-6, 270-pound athlete spent four seasons with the Calgary Stampeders in the CFL. During his time with the Stampeders, he earned two All-Star selections and played a pivotal role in securing a Grey Cup championship in 1992. His contributions to Canadian football were later acknowledged with induction into the B.C. Football Hall of Fame.

In addition to his sports legacy, Hasselbach leaves behind a loving family, including his wife Aundrea, children Ashlee, Terran, Aven, and Kian, and four grandchildren. His impact on the football community and the lives he touched will be remembered by many.
