Denver’s first-round draft pick DaRon Holmes II is facing a season-ending setback after tearing his right Achilles tendon during the Nuggets’ NBA Summer League debut on Friday night, according to reports from The Athletic and other media outlets.
Holmes, a 6-foot-10 center-forward from Dayton, was traded to Denver after being chosen 22nd overall by Phoenix.
Despite his injury, he managed to contribute 11 points and seven rebounds in 26 minutes during the Nuggets’ 88-78 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.
Last season, Holmes excelled in the Atlantic 10 Conference, sharing the player of the year honors as a junior with averages of 20.4 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
