Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is reportedly a target for London rivals Tottenham Hotspur as the transfer deadline day approaches. According to The Mirror, Ange Postecoglou’s side is showing keen interest in the 23-year-old Englishman.
Gallagher is expected to be one of the players in the spotlight on deadline day for the second consecutive window. Last summer, Newcastle United pursued a deal for the midfielder until the final moments, but their financial constraints mean they are unable to afford him this month.
However, Gallagher remains a highly sought-after player. Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly pursuing the 23-year-old, who would fit well into Ange Postecoglou’s high-pressing attacking system.
Despite Gallagher’s preference to stay at Stamford Bridge, where he grew up as a Chelsea fan and came through the youth ranks, his contract situation presents a dilemma for the club. With just 18 months left on his contract, Chelsea faces a decision regarding his future.
Reports suggest Chelsea could be tempted to sell Gallagher for a fee of around £50 million. While acknowledging his impressive performances this season, the club is uncertain about offering him a lucrative new contract. Additionally, Mauricio Pochettino’s side is reportedly open to selling another homegrown player, Armando Broja, this month if the right offer comes along.
Gallagher has been a key figure for Chelsea this season, contributing six assists in 28 appearances across all competitions. With 73 appearances for the club to his name, the 23-year-old has scored three goals and provided seven assists.
