Willy Adames hit a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning to tie the game, and Rhys Hoskins was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded as the Milwaukee Brewers came from behind to beat the Colorado Rockies 4-3 on Tuesday night.
Brenton Doyle hit his third home run in two games and also had an RBI double for the Rockies. Colorado outfielder Nolan Jones made a strong throw of 100.8 mph from left field to home plate in the seventh inning, preventing the Brewers from scoring and keeping the game tied at 2-2.
In the ninth inning, the Brewers loaded the bases with one out against Nick Mears (1-4). Adames hit a deep fly ball to center field that scored the tying run. Mears then walked a batter to reload the bases before Justin Lawrence came in to pitch. Lawrence’s 3-2 pitch hit Rhys Hoskins, allowing the go-ahead run to score.
Hoskins commented on the pressure of facing Lawrence with the bases loaded, noting the importance of making pitchers throw strikes.
Lawrence explained that he intended to throw a low and inside fastball to Hoskins but admitted the pitch got away from him.
Colorado has now lost seven games this season when leading after eight innings, the most such losses in the majors. The Brewers have now come from behind to win 26 games this season, the most in the majors. Their last six victories have all been come-from-behind wins.
Milwaukee, leading the NL Central division, had lost their previous six games played in Colorado before Tuesday’s win.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy credited his team’s resilience in a challenging game, noting their ability to chip away and come through when needed.
