In 2023, the Jets were very popular. But in 2024, they feel like the same old team that makes their fans disappointed. Coach Robert Saleh prefers it that way.

“Last year was a bit noisy,” Saleh told Steve Wyche of NFL Media. “We welcome a bit of quiet.”

Noisy is an understatement. The Jets were pressured into doing Hard Knocks. Many thought they would do well with Aaron Rodgers on the team. But the schedule made it clear it wouldn’t be easy. Losing Rodgers after just four plays made success impossible — and a big letdown.

This year might be what last year was meant to be. But expectations will likely be lower, and there may be fewer big, nationally televised games.

“Aaron is focused,” Saleh said. “He’s working hard on his rehab in California. He was ready to go last year. So, I know he’s preparing. We talk to him often. I don’t want to speak for him, but I think he’s looking forward to this season.”

Just over a week ago, the Jets weren’t sure what Rodgers was excited about, as he was possibly going to join Robert F. Kennedy Jr. That idea disappeared quickly, and now the Jets can focus on their plans.

“[I’m] excited to start this season and try to achieve what we were supposed to achieve a year ago,” Saleh said.

It won’t be easy. The schedule isn’t as tough. They play each team in their division twice, along with the four teams from the NFC West and AFC South, plus the Steelers, Broncos, and Vikings.

But they’ll need many older players in key positions to stay healthy throughout the long regular season and, if they make it, the playoffs.

If they don’t make the playoffs, that could mean the end for many of the players, coaches, and executives on owner Woody Johnson’s team.
