Manchester City’s midfielder Rodri is finally getting the break he requested. Rodri was placed on the bench for City’s Premier League match against Luton, a team struggling with relegation, on Saturday.
This decision came after Rodri openly admitted this week that he needed some rest amidst the team’s tough schedule of matches.
City is aiming for another treble, hoping to defend their titles in the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup.
A victory against Luton would push City two points ahead of both Arsenal and Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table, before their respective matches on Sunday.
Although City is expected to dominate against Luton, resting Rodri poses a challenge for manager Pep Guardiola.
The Spanish midfielder has an impressive record, having not lost any of his last 66 games for club and country, spanning over a year.
Interestingly, City’s three league losses this season occurred while Rodri was suspended. Additionally, their defeat against Newcastle in the English League’s third round also happened when Rodri was absent.
City faces Real Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinals’ second leg on Wednesday, following a 3-3 draw in Madrid earlier this week.
