Malik Nabers, the New York Giants’ rookie wide receiver, delivered another remarkable performance during a 20-15 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. He caught 12 passes for 115 yards, bringing his season totals to 35 receptions for 386 yards and three touchdowns.
His rapid success has already set an NFL record, making him the first player in history to record at least 25 receptions and three touchdowns in his first four NFL games. Giants coach Brian Daboll praised Nabers’ contributions, noting that he’s been a significant asset to the team.
Nabers’ night was cut short due to a concussion he sustained late in the fourth quarter. The injury occurred during a critical fourth-down play, as he tried to secure a desperation pass from quarterback Daniel Jones near the Giants’ sideline.
His face mask hit the ground hard, causing the ball to jar loose and resulting in an incomplete pass. After remaining down on the field for a minute, Nabers was taken to the medical tent and later to the locker room, where he was diagnosed with a concussion.
Despite the injury, Nabers showed optimism following the game. He shared a message on Instagram thanking everyone for their prayers and assuring fans that he was doing fine.
In the locker room, fellow wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson, who had 11 catches for 71 yards, mentioned that while they had a brief conversation, he believes Nabers will recover soon. The Giants have a 10-day break before their next game against the Seattle Seahawks, allowing time for Nabers to undergo recovery under the NFL’s concussion protocol.
Nabers has quickly become a key figure in the Giants’ offensive strategy. He was targeted 15 times during the game, and his 35 receptions through four games place him second in NFL history for rookie receptions, behind only Puka Nacua’s 39 last season.
This was also his second game with at least 10 receptions and 100 yards, a feat only surpassed by former Giants star Odell Beckham Jr., who had four such games during his rookie season in 2014.
Nabers made his presence felt early, with a 39-yard reception on the Giants’ first drive, creating significant separation from his defender. As the game progressed, Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs increasingly matched up against him, especially on key plays like the fourth-down attempt in the final quarter.
Without Nabers available in the final moments of the game, Daniel Jones threw an interception on a Hail Mary attempt, sealing the Giants’ loss. Nabers, despite the injury, continues to make an impressive mark in his debut NFL season.
