Russell Wilson is on the verge of hitting free agency following his imminent release from the Denver Broncos, and it seems he’s already drawing interest from a notable team seeking a seasoned quarterback.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly keen on signing Wilson and are scheduled to meet with the free agent, according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh-Post Gazette. Dulac also notes that Wilson shares a mutual interest in potentially joining the Steelers.
Wilson’s tenure with the Broncos effectively concluded this week with the team’s public announcement, though he won’t officially hit free agency until Wednesday.
During his two seasons with Denver, Wilson participated in 30 games, amassing 6,594 passing yards, 42 touchdown passes, and 19 interceptions. The Broncos are absorbing an $85 million cap hit in dead money to part ways with Wilson.
Pittsburgh posted a 10-7 record last season but fell to the Buffalo Bills in the wild-card round of the playoffs. Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett, entering his third pro season, has accumulated 13 touchdown passes, 13 interceptions, and 4,474 passing yards over 25 games.
