Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have shared their big dreams for Wrexham FC, aiming to boost the capacity of their stadium to 55,000 people. They took over the team last year, bringing fresh hope and a popular documentary series.
Wrexham has seen back-to-back promotions, and now they’re heading to the third tier of English soccer. Their Racecourse Ground currently holds 12,600 fans, but plans are in motion to build a new stand for 5,500 more.
However, Reynolds and McElhenney have grander plans—they want to make it one of the largest stadiums in English soccer.
“We’ve got a vision to expand stand by stand until we have all four sides filled. We’re aiming for a crowd of 45,000 to 55,000,” said McElhenney, while Reynolds added, “Imagine the whole town coming to watch the game.”
Currently, Manchester United’s Old Trafford is the biggest club stadium in England, with room for 74,310 fans. Reynolds and McElhenney’s plans to develop the Racecourse haven’t gone smoothly, but they’re determined to make it happen, despite facing more challenges in the UK than anywhere else.
