Domantas Sabonis achieved his 25th triple-double of the season on a special night for him, guiding the Sacramento Kings to a 108-96 win against the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday.
Sabonis scored 11 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, and dished out 10 assists, making him just the fifth player in NBA history to achieve at least 25 triple-doubles in a single season. He joins the ranks of Nikola Jokić, Russell Westbrook, Wilt Chamberlain, and Oscar Robertson.
Additionally, Sabonis extended his streak of consecutive double-doubles to 54 games, surpassing Kevin Love’s record since the merger of the NBA and ABA in 1976-77. Although he’s far from Wilt Chamberlain’s record of 227 straight double-doubles, it’s still an impressive feat.
Kings coach Mike Brown praised Sabonis for his outstanding performance throughout the season, suggesting he deserved recognition as an All-Star and consideration for All-NBA and MVP honors.
Keegan Murray and De’Aaron Fox contributed 23 points each for the Kings, who ended a 10-game losing streak against the Sixers. This win helped them tie for sixth place in the Western Conference with Dallas. The Kings face the Mavericks next, in a crucial game to secure their spot in the top six and avoid the play-in tournament.
On the other side, Tyrese Maxey scored 29 points for the Sixers, but his efforts weren’t enough to lift the team, as they finished their West Coast trip with a 1-3 record. The loss dropped them to eighth place in the Eastern Conference.
Maxey’s exceptional performance in the first quarter, where he scored 84% of the team’s points, was noteworthy. However, the Kings maintained control throughout the game, with Sabonis’s milestone being a highlight of the night.
Philadelphia played without Kelly Oubre due to a shoulder injury, and Buddy Hield also exited early with an ankle injury, although X-rays showed no serious damage.
