Jung Hoo Lee got two hits, including a single that tied the game in the seventh inning, helping the San Francisco Giants to win 4-3 against the struggling Miami Marlins on Monday night.

The Marlins, who have a record of 3-14, showed their frustration when their manager, Skip Schumaker, was ejected by plate umpire Laz Díaz in the eighth inning.

Schumaker initially argued with Díaz from the dugout but wasn’t thrown out. However, when Nick Gordon came to bat as a pinch hitter, Schumaker went onto the field again to argue with Díaz, resulting in his ejection.

Schumaker explained that his disagreement with the umpire was about the delay caused by confusion over which pitcher should enter the game. The Giants planned to bring in Taylor Rogers, but Camilo Doval ended up coming in.

Schumaker believed this delay should have led to a pitch clock violation and awarded Gordon a 1-0 count.

“It’s clear they wanted Doval out there, but he wasn’t coming out,” Schumaker said. “There was extra time because once you signal, you’re supposed to start the clock and come out. Rogers comes out. The clock starts. He called the wrong guy or the wrong guy came out.”

Díaz explained to a reporter that if a manager quickly acknowledges a mistake in choosing the wrong pitcher, he can make a change without consequence.

“(Schumaker) kept arguing about the pitch clock, so I had to eject him,” Díaz said. Kyle Harrison (2-1) pitched six innings, giving up three runs. The young left-hander allowed eight hits, walked one and struck out two.

“I just aimed to prevent runs and keep our team in the game,” Harrison said. “I felt good out there. I was glad to complete six innings.”

Trailing 3-1, the Giants mounted a comeback in the seventh inning against pitchers George Soriano (0-1) and Andrew Nardi. Patrick Bailey’s sacrifice fly narrowed the gap to 3-2, followed by consecutive RBI singles from Lee and pinch-hitter Wilmer Flores.

After falling behind 0-2, Flores hit a single to center field, bringing in Nick Ahmed with the go-ahead run. “He’s a tricky left-hander to read,” Flores said in Spanish. “I just tried to make contact without pulling it.”

Tyler Rogers relieved Harrison and pitched a scoreless seventh inning, while Ryan Walker recorded the first two outs in the eighth. Camilo Doval then finished the game, retiring Gordon on a groundout and pitching a scoreless ninth for his second save.
