Ted Scott had a tough day as Scottie Scheffler’s caddie at the British Open. It seemed he was dealing with food poisoning or a stomach virus. Throughout the second round at Royal Troon, he was spotted lying down or away from Scheffler’s bag.
“He seemed to improve as the day went on,” Scheffler remarked after shooting a 70 for a total of 140 after 36 holes, placing him five strokes behind leader Shane Lowry.
“The doctor here took good care of him, but he didn’t get much sleep last night,” Scheffler added. “We weren’t sure if he would be able to work this morning, but he toughed it out.”
“You probably saw him lying down quite a bit out there, which was quite amusing,” Scheffler continued.
“Usually, he’s standing by the bag in one spot, but today on the 9th hole, he was actually sitting on the 10th tee for about 10 minutes while we were finishing up. I didn’t even notice him, which was a bit unusual. He’s a fighter, though. He did well today and pushed through it.”
Scott started working for Scheffler in late 2021 after a long tenure with two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson. He has been Scheffler’s caddie for all 12 of his PGA Tour victories, including both of his Masters wins.
