Coach Mike Macdonald believes the Seattle Seahawks will improve their running game.

After starting the season 3-0, the Seahawks have lost four of their last five games and want to turn things around this Sunday at home against their NFC West rivals, the Los Angeles Rams. A major part of getting back on track is boosting the running game.

Seattle has the top passing offense in the league, led by veteran quarterback Geno Smith. However, they are only averaging 89.3 rushing yards per game, which ranks among the lowest in the league.

Last weekend, the Seahawks lost to the Buffalo Bills 31-10 at home, which put them in a tie for first place in the NFC West. They only rushed for 32 yards against Buffalo, with Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet managing just 16 yards on 12 carries.

Walker is the leading rusher for the team, with 315 yards on 74 carries and six touchdowns.

“We’re going to get it figured out. I mean, we’re going to be a good run team, going to have an efficient offense,” Macdonald said. “I do feel like I’m a little bit of a broken record every week, but I do feel optimistic talking to the coaches and watching the tape.”

The Rams, who are 3-4, won their game against Minnesota 30-20 last Thursday.

Their run defense is ranked 23rd in the NFL, giving up an average of 139.1 rushing yards per game and six rushing touchdowns. Overall, they allow 351.7 total yards per game.

“We’re going to get this thing rolling,” Macdonald said with hope. “I think once you complement getting the run game going with all the other parts of our offense and how Geno’s throwing the ball, we could have a really strong attack.”
