In late 2008 Sébastien was signed up to Red Bull’s driver development programme. He made his Formula One debut for Toro Rosso in 2009, with Mark Webber as his team-mate. However, it wasn’t until 2010 that he recorded his first points-scoring race. Over the next few years Sébastien scored a number of points for Toro Rosso and in 2013 he was signed as a fully-fledged Red Bull Racing driver, replacing Vettel.

In 2015 Sébastien returned to Formula One, driving for Toro Rosso, where he drove for another three seasons, scoring a single podium finish in 2016. He then switched to Formula E and joined Renault e.dams in 2017 and remained with the team until 2018, when he rejoined the Red Bull family, this time with Nissan e.dams. Sébastien has become one of Formula E’s most successful drivers, having won the championship in 2015-2016 and 2018-2019.

In 2019 Sébastien also made his debut in the Le Mans 24 Hours, driving for Toyota in the LMP1 class. He was part of the team that secured pole position and went on to win the race outright.
