Seth Brown hit a walk-off RBI single in the 13th inning to give the Oakland Athletics a 7-6 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Friday night. Brown tied the game in the 11th inning with a two-run homer.

The game was very close in extra innings. Both teams scored their automatic runner in the 10th inning and then each team added two runs in the 11th inning.

Parker Meadows hit a two-out, two-run double for the Tigers, but Brown quickly answered with a two-run homer. In the 12th inning, Riley Greene got a run for the Tigers with a single, and Brent Rooker tied it up with a sacrifice fly.

Grant Holman (1-1) earned his first career win after pitching the last two innings and striking out Meadows with the bases loaded.

Brown, who came into the game as a pinch hitter in the 11th inning, drove in automatic runner JJ Bleday with a hit down the right field line off Beau Brieske (2-4). This was Brown’s second walk-off hit of the homestand.

The loss hurt the Tigers’ playoff chances as they fell five and a half games behind the final American League wild-card spot.

A’s starter Mitch Spence allowed eight hits in four-plus innings, giving up one run.

Detroit took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning with three consecutive one-out singles by Meadows, Jace Jung, and Riley Greene.

Oakland responded in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out RBI triple by Jacob Wilson.

The A’s, who will move their games to Sacramento next season before relocating to Las Vegas in 2028, had a crowd of 14,669 for the first game of their final series of their second-to-last homestand.

A’s leadoff hitter Lawrence Butler had three hits, extending his hit streak to 16 games.
