Gavin Sheets tied his career high with four hits and drove in four runs, while Korey Lee and Brooks Baldwin hit home runs, leading the Chicago White Sox to a 12-2 win over the New York Yankees on Monday night.

This victory gave interim manager Grady Sizemore his first win after the White Sox had lost 24 of their last 25 games.

The White Sox set new season records for both runs and hits with 18, bouncing back after losing their first two games under Sizemore, who took over after the team fired Pedro Grifol on Thursday. This win came after they had lost three games in a row following a win over Oakland, which ended a 21-game losing streak that tied an American League record.

“I just couldn’t be happier for the guys,” Sizemore said with a big smile and a shirt soaked in a mix of liquids and shaving cream. “Just what a great win. A great game played all around, all sides of the ball. So proud of them.”

Lee hit a home run leading off a two-run fourth inning against Yankees starter Luis Gil. Baldwin hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning off Enyel De Los Santos, extending the lead to 11-2.

Aaron Judge warms up before the game

Sheets had RBI doubles in the first inning, the fifth inning against Tim Hill, and the seventh inning off De Los Santos. He also scored on a single by Dominic Fletcher and added another single in the eighth inning.

Andrew Vaughn contributed with four hits and scored twice, helping the White Sox defeat a team that had the best record in baseball along with Baltimore.

Aaron Judge doubled in a run in the first inning against rookie Ky Bush and came close to his 300th career home run with a fly ball to the warning track in the second inning. However, the Yankees were 2 for 18 with runners in scoring position and left 16 on base.

“Yeah, they’re one of the worst teams, if you want to put it that way, but these guys are still big leaguers,” said Alex Verdugo, who scored a run. “They can still have days where they’re clicking. We saw it today, a lot of their guys 3 for 4, 3 for 4.

These guys can still have good days. We’ve got to just do a better job of coming out and cashing in those runs that we had on base, kind of step on them early.”
