Injured South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers and running back Raheim Sanders are both practicing and recovering from ankle injuries as the Gamecocks get ready for their game against No. 12 Mississippi this week.
Gamecocks coach Shane Beamer did not confirm if either player will take the field on Saturday. However, Sellers was named the starting quarterback after missing the second half of a loss to LSU and the entire game against Akron two weeks ago.
“He was good today,” Beamer said about Sellers on Tuesday. “He did everything in practice, for sure.”
Sellers, a redshirt freshman, started in the first three games for South Carolina. The team was leading 24-10 against No. 13 LSU when Sellers suffered his ankle injury and could not return.
Sellers informed Beamer that he could play against Akron, but the coach decided to keep him out during the Gamecocks’ 50-7 victory over the Zips on September 21.
This season, Sellers has thrown for 393 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions, and he has also rushed for 147 yards and three touchdowns.
Robby Ashford, a transfer from Auburn, replaced Sellers during the LSU game and started against Akron.
Sanders, a transfer from Arkansas, is leading the Gamecocks with 286 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
The Gamecocks (3-1, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) will release their SEC-required injury report for Ole Miss (4-1, 0-1) on Wednesday.
