England coach Gareth Southgate expressed his frustration at rumors suggesting he might take over as manager at Manchester United, currently led by Erik ten Hag. Southgate emphasized on Friday that he wouldn’t engage in discussions about another position while he’s still in charge of the national team.

Reports in some sections of the British media have suggested that Southgate could step in if Ten Hag were to be replaced, especially with the new management at Manchester United led by Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS team now overseeing the club’s football affairs.

Southgate is contracted to lead England until December, and he stressed that his main focus is on guiding his national team at the upcoming European Championship in Germany this June.

Speaking ahead of England’s friendly against Brazil at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, Southgate addressed questions about the recent speculation linking him to Manchester United.

“I have one primary role, which is being the England manager. My main aim is to prepare for the European Championship. We have two crucial games this week against Brazil and Belgium,” Southgate said.

He further added, “It’s important to remember that Manchester United already has a manager, and it’s disrespectful to discuss someone else’s position while they’re still in the role. As the president of the League Managers’ Association, I have no tolerance for such speculation.”

Southgate reiterated that his sole focus is on Euro 2024 and emphasized that he wouldn’t consider any other job opportunities until his current commitment with the Football Association is fulfilled.
