Stephen Curry scored a season-high 36 points, helping the Golden State Warriors beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 127-116 on Sunday in Oklahoma City.
Curry made seven 3-pointers and was 13-for-23 shooting overall. The Warriors were up by 30 points late in the third quarter, but Oklahoma City managed to cut the lead to just six points with 4:46 left in the game.
Jonathan Kuminga contributed 20 points for the Warriors, including 12 points in the second quarter, and he shot 8-for-11 from the field. De’Anthony Melton also had a strong performance, hitting five 3-pointers and finishing with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 24 points, but he struggled with his shooting, finishing 6-for-17 from the field, including 1-for-5 in the fourth quarter.
Oklahoma City played most of the game without star center Chet Holmgren, who got hurt in the first quarter after a collision with Andrew Wiggins. Holmgren hurt his right hip during the fall and did not score, finishing with zero points and four rebounds on 0-for-3 shooting.
The Thunder were down 107-77 late in the third but made a push in the fourth, closing the gap to 114-108 after Alex Caruso stole an inbounds pass and dunked it. Oklahoma City then forced another turnover from Curry, but they couldn’t capitalize.
Golden State responded with two quick baskets, including Curry’s sixth 3-pointer, which put the Warriors up 119-108 with 3:23 remaining.
Curry added five more points down the stretch, and the Thunder never got closer than seven points.
Golden State shot 50.6% from the field (45-for-89), while Oklahoma City shot 44.7% (42-for-94). The Warriors also defended the 3-point line well, holding the Thunder to just 11-for-33 (33.3%) from beyond the arc.
After Holmgren’s injury, Oklahoma City started strong, leading by seven points at the end of the first quarter. However, the Warriors came back in the second, outscoring the Thunder 39-25 to take a 65-58 lead at halftime. In the third quarter, Curry scored 17 points, and the Warriors dominated, outscoring Oklahoma City 42-21 to take a 107-79 lead into the fourth.
The Warriors have won six of their last seven games and finished their five-game road trip with a 4-1 record. The Thunder have lost two of their last three games after starting the season 7-0.
