Ben Stokes decided not to play for England in the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup in June. He made this decision, hoping it would help him focus on being a better all-rounder in the future.
Stokes played a crucial role in England’s victory in the 2022 final against Pakistan. However, he has been struggling with pain in his left knee, which has affected his bowling. Due to this, he has only played two T20 matches since the final.
Even though he delayed surgery to help England in the Cricket World Cup last October, he eventually had the operation in November. Stokes recently captained England in a test series against India but didn’t bowl much until the last test match in March.
Now, he wants to concentrate on getting fit to bowl again, especially for the upcoming test series against the West Indies and Sri Lanka.
He mentioned that skipping the IPL and the World Cup might help him focus on becoming a better all-rounder in the long run. Stokes feels he needs to work on his bowling after the knee surgery and the long break from bowling.
He looks forward to playing for Durham in the County Championship before the test summer begins. The T20 World Cup is scheduled to start on June 1 in the West Indies and the United States.
