Justin Reid,who had a accomplished three-year stint with teh Chiefs,is set to join the Saints in 2025.According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the veteran safety has agreed to a three-year deal with New orleans.Schefter reports that reid’s contract is worth up to $31.5 million with $22.5 million guaranteed. He will be teaming up with former Chief Tyrann Mathieu in the Saints’ secondary, following a similar career path as Mathieu.
New Orleans has been focused on retaining veteran players, especially on defense, and has been making moves to stay under the salary cap. While re-signing current players like Chase Young and Juwan Johnson has been a priority this offseason, Reid represents a significant outside addition for the team.
Reid, 28, was a full-time starter during his time in Kansas City and played an critically important role in their Super Bowl runs. He was ranked No. 18 on PFR’s Top 50 Free Agent list due to his performance as one of the top safeties available.
Mathieu had previously hinted at retirement but confirmed he would be playing at least one more season in 2025. With Reid now joining him in New Orleans as his potential replacement, the two safeties will be playing together for the upcoming season.
