A surprising new contender has emerged as a possible successor to Jürgen Klopp at Liverpool.
Last month, Liverpool were stunned by Klopp’s announcement that he would step down as manager at the end of the 2023/24 season.
Explaining his decision, Klopp said: “I love absolutely everything about this club, I love everything about the city, I love everything about our supporters, I love the team, I love the staff. I love everything. But that I still take this decision shows you that I am convinced it is the one I have to take.
“It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy. I have no problem now, obviously, I knew it already for longer that I would have to announce it at one point, but I am fine now. I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again.”
Liverpool will now be working tirelessly behind the scenes to find the perfect replacement for Klopp.
Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy has highlighted seven names that Liverpool could be considering.
While familiar names like Xabi Alonso, Roberto De Zerbi, and Thomas Frank were mentioned, Reddy also pointed out Francesco Farioli, the current manager of Nice, as a potential candidate, which may come as a surprise to many.
For those unfamiliar with Farioli, the Italian previously served as De Zerbi’s goalkeeper coach at Benevento and Sassuolo before transitioning into management. According to reports, Farioli, 34, has impressed with his work at Alanyaspor and Nice, where his team currently sits third in the Ligue 1 table.
