Seiya Suzuki hit a home run for the second game in a row and drove in four runs as the Chicago Cubs bounced back to beat the Colorado Rockies 9-8 on Wednesday night, despite losing a six-run lead.
The Cubs seemed to be heading for an easy win with an 8-2 lead in the sixth inning after dominating the Rockies in the first two games. However, Colorado mounted a comeback, scoring one run in the seventh inning and five runs in the eighth to tie the game.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, pinch-hitter Miles Mastrobuoni reached base on a wild pitch, took third on a single by Ian Happ, and then scored on Suzuki’s ground ball to give the Cubs a 9-8 lead.
Suzuki had three hits in the game, while Miguel Amaya drove in three runs, helping the Cubs secure their fourth consecutive victory.
Kris Bryant, struggling at the plate, managed to get two hits for the Rockies. Despite their efforts, the Rockies fell to a 1-6 record for the season.
The game was taut in the eighth inning, when the Rockies staged a dramatic comeback, scoring several runs to tie the game. However, the Cubs held on to secure the win, completing a three-game sweep.
Suzuki expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating that regardless of the weather conditions, they were in a good place as a team.
Pitchers Adbert Alzolay and Ben Brown played key roles in the Cubs’ victory. Alzolay secured his first save of the season, while Brown pitched four solid innings, allowing only one run. It was a thrilling game with both teams putting up a strong fight, but the Cubs emerged victorious.
