Iga Świątek rallied from behind to beat Beatriz Haddad Maia 4-6, 6-0, 6-2, and secure a spot in the Madrid Open semifinals for the second year in a row. Although Swiatek initially led 4-1 in the first set, Haddad Maia fought back.
However, Swiatek dominated the last two sets, marking her fifth semifinal appearance this year. She will face either Ons Jabeur or Madison Keys in the next round.
In the men’s competition, Daniil Medvedev faced a tough challenge from Alexander Bublik but managed to win 7-6 (3), 6-4. Medvedev mentioned feeling tired after chasing Bublik’s numerous drop shots but was relieved to learn that Bublik also struggled with fatigue.
Medvedev will now await the winner between Rafael Nadal and Jiri Lehecka.
Andrey Rublev, ranked eighth globally, comfortably defeated Tallon Griekspoor 6-2, 6-4, marking his third consecutive straight-set victory in Madrid.
Meanwhile, Francisco Cerundolo, ranked 22nd, caused an upset by defeating Alexander Zverev 6-3, 6-4, securing his third career victory over a top-five player. Cerundolo will face Taylor Fritz in the next round after Fritz defeated Hubert Hurkacz 7-6 (2), 6-4.
