Pop superstar Taylor Swift returned to Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday night to support her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and the Kansas City Chiefs as they kicked off the NFL season against the Baltimore Ravens.
Swift arrived about 90 minutes before the game, dressed in a denim crop top, shorts, and red, knee-high heeled boots. She joined nearly 80,000 fans waiting for the game to start while storms began to develop in the area.
Last season, Swift became a big fan of the Chiefs when she started dating Kelce, who is also a prominent figure in pop culture.
Kelce had missed the chance to give her a friendship bracelet at one of her concerts, so he invited Swift to a game through social media. She accepted and attended a September game against the Bears.
They continued their relationship throughout the season whenever Swift was on a break from her Eras Tour.
The 14-time Grammy winner even made headlines when she rushed from a concert in Japan to Las Vegas for the Super Bowl. There, she celebrated with friends like Blake Lively, enjoyed Post Malone’s rendition of “America the Beautiful,” appeared to win a beer-chugging contest, and celebrated the Chiefs’ victory with Kelce on the field.
During this time, Swift also became good friends with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany.
During the offseason, Kelce often visited the Eras Tour, even making a surprise appearance on stage in a tuxedo during one of the shows.
Swift later posted on social media that she was still “cracking up/swooning over (Kelce’s) Eras Tour debut” before 90,000 cheering fans at Wembley Stadium in London, and that she would “never forget these shows.”
Both stars have had a busy offseason.
Swift recently finished the European part of her Eras Tour with five shows in a row at Wembley and will take a break until October. She will then start the North American leg of her tour, with stops across the U.S. and Canada through December.
Kelce and his brother, retired Eagles center Jason Kelce, recently signed a deal reportedly worth nine figures to bring their “New Heights” podcast to Amazon’s Wondery service.
He is also set to appear in Ryan Murphy’s murder mystery “Grotesquerie” on FX, which premieres on Sept. 25, and he will host “Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity” on Prime Video, starting on Oct. 16.
The Chiefs, who have won two Super Bowls in a row and three in the past five years, are now trying to make history. No team has ever won the Lombardi Trophy three times consecutively.
This week, Kelce was asked how he manages everything, and he pointed to the Chiefs practice facility and Arrowhead Stadium, which is just up the hill and across a parking lot, as his special place where he is with his closest friends.
“I just love football and how it takes me away from life,” he said. “It gives me something that makes me genuinely happy. I enjoy coming into the building, working on my skills, learning a new game plan, and perfecting it for the people around me.
It gives me a purpose and helps me live my life.”
Not everything went smoothly for Swift and Kelce during the offseason.
Last month, Swift had to cancel three sold-out shows in Vienna after the CIA discovered a plot that led to the arrest of several men linked to the Islamic State group.
The deputy director of the agency, David Cohen, said “they were plotting to kill a huge number — tens of thousands of people at this concert, including many Americans — and were quite advanced in this.”
Then on Thursday, a spokesperson for Kelce rejected a document recently posted online that questioned the authenticity of their relationship as “entirely false and fabricated.”
The document, titled “Comprehensive Media Plan For Travis Kelce’s Relations Following Breakup with Taylor Swift,” was posted on Reddit but has since been removed.
This document appeared around the same time that Kelce was on “The Rich Eisen Show,” where he talked about their relationship.
“She had been very open to learning about the game,” Kelce said. “What makes her so great at what she does is her attention to detail in everything, from the lyrics to her music and even the releases and music videos. She’s so involved in all of it that I think she was just interested in understanding the profession.”
Kelce even mentioned that Swift had started drawing up some plays for him. He added with a smile, “She’s a bit biased and just creates plays for me. We’ll see if any of them make it to Coach (Andy) Reid’s office.”
