Taylor Swift finished a high-profile week, which included endorsing Kamala Harris for president and winning seven awards at the MTV Video Music Awards, by attending the Kansas City Chiefs game at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday.
Swift arrived around 90 minutes before the game started to see her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, and the two-time defending Super Bowl champions play against the Cincinnati Bengals, a team they’ve faced in two of the last three AFC championship games.
Over the past year, Swift has become good friends with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany. This led to some controversy this week after Swift publicly supported Harris over Donald Trump in the upcoming election.
Since last month, Trump has been talking about Brittany Mahomes in his interviews and speeches, following an Instagram post by her that supported his 2024 GOP platform. Trump thanked her on Truth Social, saying: “I want to thank beautiful Brittany Mahomes for so strongly defending me.”
In response to Swift’s endorsement of Harris, Trump said in a Fox News interview: “I actually like Mrs. Mahomes much better, if you want to know the truth. She’s a big Trump fan. I like Brittany. I think Brittany is great.”
Trump took it further on Sunday, posting in all caps on Truth Social: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”
Patrick Mahomes chose not to endorse any candidate when asked about the situation. Instead, he encouraged people to register to vote.
“I don’t want my place and my platform to be used to endorse a candidate or do whatever, either way,” said the two-time NFL MVP before practice on Wednesday. “I think my place is to inform people to get registered to vote. It’s to inform people to do their own research and then make the best decision for them and their family.”
