Lionel Messi may be the most renowned player at Inter Miami, but he isn’t the wealthiest on the current roster.
With a reported career earnings of $650 million and a remarkable array of accolades including eight Ballon d’Ors, 10 La Liga titles, and four Champions Leagues, among others, the 36-year-old Argentine has certainly left an indelible mark on the football world.
After spending two years with Paris Saint-Germain, Messi made his move Stateside last summer, aiming to make an impact in Major League Soccer (MLS) and bolster the profile of Inter Miami in his inaugural full season with the club.
However, despite his superstar status, Messi isn’t the financial frontrunner at Inter Miami. That distinction belongs to 23-year-old Leonardo Campana, whose family wealth places him in a league of his own.
Campana, who hails from Ecuador and was previously associated with Premier League outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers, joined Inter Miami in January 2022. Although he never featured in a league match for Wolves, Campana made a permanent move to Miami in January 2023 after an initial loan spell.
The young forward comes from a family with deep-rooted financial success. His father, Pablo Campana, a former professional tennis player and Ecuadorian Olympian, transitioned into politics and subsequently founded Millenium S.A., a prominent real estate development company, where he currently holds the CEO position.
Campana’s grandmother, Isabel Noboa, is a renowned business figure in Ecuador, credited with several successful investments across various industries. Educated at esteemed institutions like Harvard and the University of London, Isabel’s ventures span real estate, industry, agriculture, tourism, and commerce.
According to reports from Latin Trade cited by the Daily Mail, the Campana family boasts a staggering net worth exceeding $1 billion, far surpassing Messi’s substantial earnings.
As Inter Miami kick off their MLS campaign against Real Salt Lake, they’ve also welcomed another high-profile addition in Luis Suarez, a close confidant of Messi, further adding to the club’s star-studded lineup.
