On Tuesday, Manchester United’s 18-year-old midfielder Kobbie Mainoo received his inaugural call-up from England.
Initially part of England Under-21s, Mainoo has now been added to coach Gareth Southgate’s senior squad ahead of upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.
Having previously represented England at the Under-17s and Under-19s levels in midfield, Mainoo’s promotion to the senior team marks a significant milestone in his career.
Southgate had announced his squad for the friendlies the previous week, with all other players reporting to the training camp on Tuesday.
Among the newcomers was Brentford striker Ivan Toney, returning after an eight-month ban for breaching betting rules. Additionally, Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite and Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon received their first senior summons.
Liverpool defender Joe Gomez also made a comeback to the squad, marking his first call-up since 2020. Notably absent was Kalvin Phillips, who has faced challenges during his loan spell with West Ham.
England is set to face Brazil on Saturday and Belgium next Tuesday, with both matches taking place at Wembley Stadium.
