Manchester United’s winless streak across all competitions reached five games after a 0-0 draw against Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday. This result puts manager Erik ten Hag’s job in question as the team heads into a two-week international break.
Ten Hag faced intense pressure at Villa Park, with United losing three of their first six league matches. The club’s minority owner, Jim Ratcliffe, did not express confidence in the Dutch coach when asked about it on Friday.
Although earning a point at Villa is commendable, it may not be enough to secure Ten Hag’s position, especially since the team’s new leadership will have two weeks to consider his future before the next match. United is currently in 14th place in the league, which has 20 teams.
In front of Ratcliffe and other club officials, the closest United came to scoring was when Bruno Fernandes hit the crossbar with a free kick in the 68th minute. Villa mostly controlled the game, having just beaten Bayern Munich in the Champions League four days earlier.
Since a tough 3-0 defeat to Tottenham last weekend, United has drawn against Porto in the Europa League and now at an improved Villa.
In other matches, Chelsea drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest, thanks to Noni Madueke’s equalizer in the 57th minute at Stamford Bridge.
Forest took the lead through Chris Wood eight minutes earlier and had to finish the game with 10 players after James Ward-Prowse was sent off for a second yellow card for using his hands to stop a breakaway. Tottenham played against Brighton later on Sunday.
