When Antonio Brown left the Buccaneers suddenly during the 2021 season, the team needed an experienced wide receiver for the playoffs. Terrell Owens claimed on social media that he was available for that role. Now, two and a half years later, Owens is accusing Tom Brady of being the reason the Buccaneers didn’t sign him.
Owens revealed on the Bubba Dub Show that he tried to reach out to Brady to join the team for the playoffs, specifically to fill in gaps left by Antonio Brown’s departure. However, Owens said Brady ignored his attempts.
“Tom Brady ignored me,” Owens stated. “During the season when AB had issues… they needed someone to step in, especially for third downs and red zone plays.
I tried contacting him through Randy [Moss] and others, but he ignored me. It shows a lack of respect, especially when they act differently face-to-face.”
At the time, Owens was 48 years old and hadn’t played in the NFL since he was cut by the Seahawks after three weeks of training camp a decade earlier.
It’s likely that Brady’s decision wasn’t about disrespecting Owens’ past achievements in the NFL, but rather focusing on playoff preparation without distractions from players unlikely to make the roster.
