The 2028 Los Angeles Olympics recently announced where events will take place, with Carson and Long Beach playing familiar roles from past games in the region.
In Carson, the velodrome will host track cycling, field hockey will be on nearby fields, rugby sevens in the stadium, and tennis at Dignity Health Sports Park. The venues won’t use their usual corporate names for the 2028 Games. The velodrome previously hosted track cycling during the 1984 LA Olympics.
Long Beach will host rowing and canoe sprint at Marine Stadium, handball at Long Beach Arena, marathon swimming and triathlon along the waterfront, sailing at Belmont Shore, and water polo in a temporary pool at the convention center parking lot. Artistic swimming was also confirmed earlier.
Rowing and canoe sprint moved from Lake Perris in Riverside County, about 1 1/2 hours from Long Beach. Long Beach previously hosted archery, fencing, sailing, and volleyball in 1984, with Marine Stadium hosting rowing during the 1932 Games.
Additional sports will be held south of downtown Los Angeles along Figueroa Street, joining athletics, gymnastics, and diving which were already announced. The Los Angeles Convention Center, the main press center in 1984, will host fencing, judo, table tennis, taekwondo, and wrestling, while weightlifting will be at a theater across the street.
Golf will take place at Riviera Country Club in the Pacific Palisades area, and badminton will be at Galen Center on the University of Southern California campus.
