The 49ers have expanded their coaching staff once again. According to Matt Maiocco of NBCSportsBayArea.com, the team has brought on board former Raiders offensive coordinator Mick Lombardi. Although the team has not disclosed Lombardi’s specific role yet, his addition signals a strengthening of the coaching lineup.

Lombardi’s tenure with the Raiders commenced when Josh McDaniels assumed the head coaching role in 2022. However, both Lombardi and McDaniels were dismissed in October of the following year. Before his stint with the Raiders, Lombardi had coaching spells with the Patriots and Jets.

Notably, he began his NFL coaching journey with the Niners, serving as the assistant to the head coach under Jim Harbaugh in 2013. Lombardi remained within the organization until the conclusion of the 2016 season.

In addition to Lombardi’s arrival, the 49ers have recently made adjustments on the defensive front, including promoting Nick Sorensen to defensive coordinator and bringing in Brandon Staley.

Despite these developments, the team has yet to formally announce any of these coaching changes.
