U.S. Open finalist Taylor Fritz and semifinalist Frances Tiafoe are not on the Davis Cup team selected by the United States for the upcoming group-stage matches next week.
The U.S. Tennis Association announced on Saturday that Brandon Nakashima, Mackie McDonald, Reilly Opelka, Austin Krajicek, and Rajeev Ram will be representing the U.S. in the competition that begins on Tuesday in Zhuhai, China.
The American team is in a round-robin group with Chile, Germany, and Slovakia.
The top two teams from each of the four groups will move on to the Davis Cup Finals, which will take place from November 19 to 24 in Malaga, Spain.
On Friday night, Fritz won against Tiafoe in five sets in the first U.S. Open semifinal between two American men in 19 years.
Fritz will compete against No. 1 Jannik Sinner from Italy for the title on Sunday. Sinner is not part of Italy’s Davis Cup team for the group stage.
