The Arizona Cardinals were expected to take their time rebuilding, with the process possibly lasting until 2025 or even 2026, as second-year general manager Monti Ossenfort carefully built a team around star quarterback Kyler Murray.

But a three-game winning streak has put the team ahead of schedule.

The Cardinals (5-4) played strongly on Sunday, winning 29-9 against the visiting Chicago Bears. Arizona never trailed in the game, took control of the line of scrimmage, and wore down the Bears.

This blue-collar performance was one of the most impressive wins under second-year coach Jonathan Gannon. The Cardinals are now in first place in the NFC West, although the race is tight, with the last-place Seahawks just one game behind.

“We take one day at a time, every second counts, maximize the day, keep blinders on and go about your business,” Gannon said. “Display winning behavior on a consistent day-to-day basis and you’ll give yourself a chance to win the game.”

Because of the recent winning streak, Ossenfort has been more aggressive ahead of the trade deadline. He added linebacker Baron Browning from Denver to help improve the team’s pass rush. More moves could be made before Tuesday’s deadline.

On Sunday, the Cardinals won with contributions from several players who aren’t household names.

Emari Demercado ran for a 53-yard touchdown just before halftime. Young cornerbacks Garrett Williams and Max Melton had strong performances against Chicago’s talented receivers. Linebacker Zaven Collins had two sacks, leading a defense that finished with six total sacks.
