The Arizona Diamondbacks are making changes to their coaching staff after narrowly missing the playoffs.
The team announced on Thursday that pitching coach Brent Strom, assistant pitching coach Dan Carlson, and bullpen coach Mike Fetters will not be returning in their positions next year.
Arizona faced many injuries to its pitching staff, with players like Eduardo Rodriguez, Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Jordan Montgomery, and former closer Paul Sewald all spending time on the injured list.
Diamondbacks owner Ken Kendrick also mentioned to Arizona Sports that he takes responsibility for the costly signing of Montgomery, who did not perform well and was moved to the bullpen.
The Diamondbacks had the highest-scoring offense in baseball, averaging 5.47 runs per game, but their pitching staff struggled with an ERA of 4.62.
The defending NL champion Diamondbacks ended the season tied with Atlanta and the New York Mets at 89-73 but missed the playoffs due to tiebreakers.
