The Atlanta Braves put All-Star catcher Sean Murphy on the 10-day injured list on Saturday due to a strained left oblique muscle.
The Braves brought catcher Chadwick Tromp onto the main team to replace Murphy. Tromp will back up Travis d’Arnaud while Murphy is sidelined. D’Arnaud took over as catcher in Saturday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Murphy got hurt during Friday’s game against the Phillies when he swung in the seventh inning of Atlanta’s 9-3 victory. He earned his first All-Star selection last season.
“It’s unfortunate for him. It’s one of those unexpected occurrences in baseball,” Braves manager Brian Snitker remarked.
