On Monday, the Atlanta Hawks traded for David Roddy from the Phoenix Suns, sending E.J. Liddell to Phoenix in return.
Liddell, who was acquired by the Hawks in a deal involving two first-round draft picks and high-scoring guard Dejounte Murray on July 6, is being traded for the second time in less than a month. Liddell, a second-round pick from Ohio State, was originally selected by New Orleans in 2022.
Roddy was drafted 23rd overall by Philadelphia in 2022 but had his rights acquired by Memphis. During the 2023-24 season, he played 65 games with Memphis and Phoenix, starting 13 of them.
He averaged 6.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per game, with 18 games scoring in double figures and two games where he matched his career-high with 10 rebounds.
Roddy, who stands 6-5 and weighs 255 pounds, averaged 11.1 points and 5.5 rebounds in his 13 starts. He also played five games for the Phoenix Summer League team, where he averaged 14.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists.
Liddell, who is 6-7 and weighs 240 pounds, had limited playtime with New Orleans, appearing in only eight games last season. For Atlanta’s summer league team, he averaged 7.8 points and 4.0 rebounds.
In addition to Liddell, the Hawks had previously received guard Dyson Daniels, forward-center Larry Nance Jr., and center Cody Zeller in the deal for Murray. They are also set to get a 2025 first-round pick and a conditional 2027 first-round pick.
