Jordan Westburg sealed the deal with a single that hugged the right field line in the 11th inning, earning his fourth hit of the game as the Baltimore Orioles clinched a 5-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday.
Gunnar Henderson added to the Orioles’ momentum with his 12th homer of the season, while Anthony Santander’s eighth-inning home run leveled the score at 4-all.
“Gunnar’s performance speaks volumes,” remarked Orioles manager Brandon Hyde. “At just 22, he’s already showing great promise, and he’s only going to improve.”
Craig Kimbrel bounced back with a scoreless 11th inning, securing the win for the Orioles after facing some challenges in recent outings. Baltimore, leading the AL East, has been on a roll, winning seven of their last eight games and boasting one of the best records in the league.
Westburg contributed with an RBI double in the second inning and singles in the fourth and ninth innings before his decisive hit in the 11th, driving in Colton Cowser, who was placed on base automatically.
“We really wanted to pull through for our bullpen,” said Westburg. “They put in some solid innings. I believed that with more chances to score, we would eventually bring one home.”
Ketel Marte continued his impressive form with a 12-game hitting streak and a homer for the Diamondbacks, who haven’t won at Camden Yards since June 17, 2007.
