The Bears seem to have a clear plan for their first pick in the upcoming draft, so now they’re focusing on deciding who to target with their other first-round selection.
They own the ninth pick, and head coach Matt Eberflus mentioned that the team’s recent moves in free agency have given them flexibility in choosing the right fit for that spot.
General Manager Ryan Poles explained that they’ll split their personnel staff into teams to discuss different options for the ninth pick.
Each team will argue for a specific position like tackle, receiver, or defensive end, using facts to support their choices. Then they’ll debate which option will benefit the team the most in both the short and long term.
Poles also mentioned the possibility of trading down from the ninth pick, depending on what other teams do and what they decide internally before the draft begins later this month in Detroit.
