The Bears’ pursuit of offensive lineman Ryan Bates has finally come to fruition after a two-year endeavor.
Chicago sealed the deal with the Bills, acquiring Bates in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the upcoming 2024 draft, as confirmed by the Bills.
Pending a physical, the trade is set to be finalized on March 13.
This acquisition marks the culmination of the Bears’ previous attempt to secure Bates back in 2022 when they signed him to an offer sheet as a restricted free agent, only for Buffalo to match it.
Bates, who spent five seasons with the Bills, boasts an impressive resume, having appeared in 73 games and started in 19. While he did not notch any starts in 2023, he remained a valuable asset, playing in 17 games.
With the addition of Bates, the Bears enhance their offensive line depth, while the Bills bolster their draft arsenal with 10 picks in the upcoming 2024 draft.
