The Cincinnati Bengals announced on Wednesday that they’ve chosen to activate the fifth-year option on the rookie contract of their standout wide receiver, Ja’Marr Chase.
Chase, who is currently in his fourth year under the contract, will now have his deal extended for a fifth year. This move provides the Bengals with more time to negotiate a long-term agreement with Chase, who was named the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2021 and is an integral part of their plans.
Having played alongside Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow during their time at LSU in 2019, Chase has been a key player for Cincinnati over the past three seasons, leading the team in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns.
During the previous season, Chase achieved career highs with 100 receptions, totaling 1,216 yards and scoring seven touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Tee Higgins, the Bengals’ secondary receiver, will continue with the team under the franchise tag for this season, securing his presence in Cincinnati for another year with a salary of $21.8 million.
