NFL coaches have to move on quickly, like when you flip the page of a book really fast. Sean McDermott, the coach, might need some additional coffee this week to keep up.
The Bills beat the Washington Commanders on Sunday, but they still have a tough game against the Miami Dolphins next week. Coach McDermott knows it will not be easy.
The time to prepare for the next game is becoming shorter, especially when you are facing a team like the Miami Dolphins that scored 70 points in their last game. That is something I have not seen in my entire NFL career. They are very good at scoring quickly,” McDermott said.
Buffalo defeated the Commanders 37-3 on the road, forcing five turnovers and recording nine sacks. It’s laughable to think that a 34-point smash might look pretty boring when a division opponent puts out a 70-point burger in a 50-point win.
The Dolphins’ speed combination of Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Raheem Mostert, and Devon Ackern is unlike anything other clubs can offer on grass.
Coach McDaniel is Very Creative and Knows How to Position Himself on Defense
When you combine the speed with Mike McDaniel’s creative schemes and Tua Tagovailoa’s quick release and accuracy, you create an offense that can hunt down even the biggest bullies on the block.
“It looks like we added some things this offseason, right?” McDermott said Monday of the Dolphins’ offense. “Well, that’s a very good skill set.
Tua throws the ball very well. And their scheme is almost revolutionary in its content. Coach (Mike) McDaniel is very creative, and he knows how to position himself on defense. They do a lot to break it down.”
Coach McDermott started calling the plays for the Bills’ defense this year, and they have been doing very well. In the last three games they played, they only allowed the other teams to score 16, 10, and 3 points.
Plus, they did not allow those teams to get even 300 yards in any game. But now, they are going to play against the Dolphins, and the Dolphins are a whole different challenge, which might make the whole game turn out different from our expectations.
McDermott said his defense will have to stay calm all week to slow down the Dolphins’ splash show. “We start with the basics. We need to improve the basics. I think we need to focus on that,” he said. The Bills will play Miami on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on CBS.
