Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen, a four-time All-Star, will be out for the last six games of the season after being placed on the 15-day injured list on Monday due to a sore right shoulder.

Boston called up right-hander Chase Shugart from Triple-A Worcester.

Jansen, who will turn 37 next week, has a record of 4-2 with a 3.29 ERA and 27 saves in 31 opportunities during the 2024 season, marking his 15th year in the majors. He will become a free agent after the World Series.

On Sunday, Jansen struck out a batter in a scoreless inning during the first game of a doubleheader sweep against Minnesota.

Manager Alex Cora mentioned after the second game that Jansen had been feeling sore and was likely to go on the injured list.

Jansen led the National League in saves with the Dodgers in 2017 and the Braves in 2022. He won a World Series title with Los Angeles in 2020 and played for Atlanta in 2022 before signing a two-year deal with Boston before the 2023 season.

With 447 career saves, Jansen has the most among active players and ranks fourth in MLB history.
