The Browns are giving kicker Cade York another chance, despite his past struggles. Cleveland is bringing back York, who was cut last season after some difficulties, according to a source familiar with the decision.
York, a fourth-round draft pick in 2022, will join the team for the offseason. He may compete with Dustin Hopkins for the kicking position during training camp.
York had a strong start to his NFL career with a game-winning 58-yard field goal in 2022. However, he was released last summer after a poor preseason performance. The Browns then traded for Hopkins, who performed well throughout the season.
Hopkins had an impressive record, making 33 of 36 field goals and all eight attempts beyond 50 yards. However, he missed the playoffs due to a hamstring injury.
York, drafted from LSU, had a promising rookie season, making 24 of 32 field goals and 35 of 37 extra points. But he struggled during the preseason last year, leading to his release from the Browns.
After leaving Cleveland, York spent time on Tennessee’s practice squad and with the New York Giants but did not play in any regular-season games.
