Running back J.K. Dobbins could make his return for the Los Angeles Chargers this weekend after being activated off injured reserve on Friday.
Dobbins missed four games after injuring his knee late in the first half of the Chargers’ 30-23 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on November 25. Los Angeles (9-6) can secure its second AFC playoff spot in three years with a win against New England on Saturday.
At the time of his injury, Dobbins was ranked fourth in the AFC for rushing, with 766 yards. He averaged 4.8 yards per carry, which was the seventh-highest among NFL running backs with at least 150 carries. Dobbins has also been a candidate for AP Comeback Player of the Year after recovering from a torn Achilles tendon in last season’s opener.
After injuries affected his four years with the Ravens, Dobbins, a 2020 second-round pick, decided to take a chance on himself by signing a one-year deal with the Chargers.
Dobbins’ return is expected to strengthen a running game that has struggled without him. In the past four games, the Chargers have averaged only 74.8 rushing yards, down from the 118.1 yards they were gaining before Dobbins’ injury.
The Chargers also promoted safeties Eddie Jackson and Kendall Williamson from the practice squad for Saturday’s game.
