The Los Angeles Chargers continued to bolster their roster during free agency, securing their second tight end addition with the signing of Hayden Hurst on Friday.
Hurst, recently released by Carolina as a salary-cap move, brings his experience to the Chargers after a season where he amassed 18 receptions for 184 yards and a touchdown. Unfortunately, his season was cut short due to a concussion suffered during a Thursday night matchup against Chicago, causing him to miss the final eight games.
Despite entering his seventh season, Hurst finds himself on his fourth team in as many years.
Drafted 25th overall by the Baltimore Ravens in 2018, he later moved to Atlanta in 2020 before a brief stint with Cincinnati in 2022 and Carolina last season.
Notably, he boasts two seasons with over 50 receptions, with his standout year occurring in 2020 with Atlanta, where he tallied 58 catches for 571 yards and six touchdowns.
Hurst’s addition adds depth to the Chargers’ offense, complementing former Baltimore teammate Gus Edwards, who also joined the team in free agency. The Chargers’ new general manager, Joe Hortiz, brings a wealth of experience from his tenure with the Ravens, including 26 seasons and the last decade as director of college scouting.
