The Cleveland Browns strengthened their offensive line on Tuesday by signing free agent center Brian Allen to a one-year contract, according to his agency’s announcement on social media.
Allen, who has started 36 games and played in a Super Bowl for the Rams, will join the Browns for the upcoming season.
Although the Browns have not officially confirmed the deal yet.
In recent seasons, the 28-year-old Allen faced some injury setbacks and served as a backup in 2023 before being released by the Rams in February.
Former NFL center LeCharles Bentley, who briefly played for the Browns and founded AMDG Sports, expressed his excitement about Allen’s signing.
“I’ve known BA since he was a high schooler,” Bentley wrote. “When he’s healthy, one of the toughest guys in the NFL. My personal favorite C to watch play. Really hoping he reclaims old form and helps the Land keep dominating upfront. A real dawg.”
Allen, a former player at Michigan State, is expected to compete with 2023 draft pick Luke Wypler as a backup for starter Ethan Pocic.
The Browns have been aiming to strengthen their interior, and last week, they drafted Michigan guard Zak Zinter in the third round. They admire his versatility and may also give him some opportunities at center.
Zinter will provide backup support for Pro Bowlers Joel Bitonio and Wyatt Teller.
