Restricted free agent forward Isaac Okoro has reached an agreement to stay with the Cleveland Cavaliers on a three-year deal, according to a source who spoke with The Associated Press on Saturday.
The new contract is valued at $38 million, as shared by the source who asked to remain anonymous since the deal hasn’t been signed or officially announced.
ESPN.com was the first to report this agreement, citing Okoro’s representatives.
Chosen fifth overall in the 2020 NBA draft, Okoro is known as Cleveland’s top defender on the perimeter, often tasked with guarding the opponent’s best scorer. He has also been working to improve his offensive skills.
Last season, the 23-year-old averaged 9.4 points and 3.0 rebounds over 69 games, with 42 starts.
The Cavs won their playoff opener against Orlando but were eliminated by Boston, the eventual champion.
Okoro achieved a career-high 39% shooting from three-point range, compelling defenses to cover him more closely.
His new deal wraps up a very busy summer for the Cavs. It began with the firing of coach J.B. Bickerstaff and the hiring of Kenny Atkinson. All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell signed a three-year, $150 million extension in July, ending months of speculation about his future with the team.
Additionally, power forward Evan Mobley signed a five-year, $224 million contract, and center Jarrett Allen secured a three-year, $91 million extension.
