Brayan Rocchio hit a single that brought home Ramón Laureano, who started on second base, in the 10th inning, leading Cleveland to a 5-4 win over Detroit on Wednesday.
Cleveland tied the game in the ninth inning when David Fry hit a solo home run against Andrew Chafin. Then, in the 10th inning, Rocchio hit a sharp single off closer Alex Lange to seal the comeback victory for the Guardians.
Rocchio had previously scored an unearned run in the eighth inning against Joey Wentz, bringing Cleveland within one run at 4-3. This was Rocchio’s first career walk-off hit.
Emmanuel Clase pitched a scoreless inning and earned the win for Cleveland. With this victory, Cleveland’s record improved to 24-13, tying them for the second-best record in the American League.
This game marked Detroit’s 15th one-run game of the season, the most in the MLB. The Tigers have won seven out of these 15 close games, holding a record of 7-8.
